A Word From The Chief
We are excited you are interested in volunteering for our department. We strive to hire individuals who will help us to take Delaware Township to the next level in emergency response. Our member expectations are rigorous, but that is what helps us to achieve the outstanding level of service our community has come to expect.

Minimum Requirements
- 18 Years of Age
- High School Diploma or GED
- Understand and carry out written and verbal instructions
- Valid Iowa driver's license
- Live within 10 minutes normal drive time to the station
- No previous training or experience required
Department Standards
Trainings
- Trainings are held every Tuesday starting at 1900H
- Members shall attend 75% of all department trainings unless otherwise approved by the Chief
- Members who arrive after 1930H shall not receive credit for the training
Duty Shifts
- Each shift will have a minimum of three members on duty each night
- Shifts run from: 19:00 to 05:00 hours, Sunday night through Friday morning. 19:00 to 19:00 hours, Friday night through Sunday night
- Each member will be assigned a shift every 3rd day/night
Certifications
- Each member is required to obtain Firefighter I certification within 12 months of hire, unless otherwise approved by the Chief
- Each member shall be enrolled in an Iowa EMT course within 24 months of hire, unless currently certified as an EMT or above in the State of Iowa
- Members may also request additional trainings in both Fire and EMS. All training is offered at no cost to the member
